I love getting TONS of Junk Mail, said no one – ever. Here are five easy things I did to reduce the amount of junk mail I receive.
1. Remove your name from various direct mail lists that you may have been placed directly or indirectly related purchases, warranty cards or credit cards. Goto OptOutPreScreen.com – The official consumer site for opting in and out of direct mail offers. Takes about 20 seconds, and it’s good for five years.
2. Click hereto enter your address to be removed from VALPAK and eliminate a variety of promotional flyers, magazines and ads.
3. This seems to be the big one. I visited the Direct Marketing Association site, I had register for an account, then enter my credit card (for a $2 charge). I selected the option to be removed from all unsolicited mail. I also had the option to customize what I receive.
4. I took an honest look at all of mail for 30 days, ensuring that all my “actual” mail is upgraded to paperless.
5. On a philanthropic note, I reached out to charities (which I contribute to) and asked them to save the money on the mail and that I would continue to contribute. For unsolicited charities, I called them. Check out this article on Charity Watch about avoiding unwanted solicitations.
The sites seemed in agreement that it will take about 90 days to see the full impact. Now, I just have to work on my e-mail.
