$500 MILLION PACKING DISTRICT – NEAR DOWNTOWN ORLANDO

The developer of the $500 million Packing District — one of the biggest developments near downtown Orlando — aims to convert another industrial space into a new use. Orlando-based master developer Dr. Phillips Inc. is exploring the adaptive reuse of a roughly 123,000-square-foot warehouse at 2222 Diversified Way into a future office space, Ken Robinson, president/CEO of Dr. Phillips Charities, told Orlando Business Journal. It’s part of a larger 200-acre redevelopment project of several aging industrial buildings historically used for citrus packing.

CAMPING WORLD STADIUM IMPROVEMENT PROJECT MOVES AHEAD

Originally built in 1936, the stadium underwent a major expansion in 1989, and reconstruction of the lower bowl and suite-level renovations in 2014. The current renovation will include the north endzone seating bowl, modernizing restrooms and concession areas, improving club-level seating, new premium mezzanine clubs on east and west, and upgrading the parking lots and building systems.

THREE HOTELS VYING FOR FLAG IN NEW DOWNTOWN CITI TOWER

The developers who built CitiTower in downtown Orlando said they have three high-end hotels competing for the flag in their latest project, a 33-story tower overlooking Lake Eola.  Summa Development Group Principals Albert Socol and Marlene Weiss have promised to bring downtown Orlando’s first 5-star convention hotel to the central business district as part of the new mixed-use tower at 319 E. Church St. The plans call for 129 branded residences – a combination of 102 condominiums and 27 penthouse units over the hotel.

A new elderly affordable housing development just broke ground, less than 2 miles southwest of Mall at Millenia. The name of the development is Madison Landing. Winter Park Construction (WPC) is the general contractor for the project, Blue Skies Studios is the architect, and Evans Engineering is the civil engineer.

UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL FLORIDA’S FUTURE AIRPORT CAMPUS 


The Orlando International Airport and the University of Central Florida are working together on a new campus concept on airport land. The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority heard a pitch from the university on Aug. 19 regarding a new way the airport can diversify its tourism and corporate travel-dependent business model, which has been ravaged by the Covid-19 pandemic.
